Claxton Fruit Cake
Monday, January 21, 2008 at 07:27PM Perhaps I'm the only person I know that loves fruit cake. Wait, not true, my mom enjoys it too. My grandma, her mom, Kay, used to make it with brandy. Yum!
Anyway, while I was home in Michigan for Christmas mom and I went to Meijer's (best grocery store ever! precursor to those superstores, like Target and Walmart) and I spotted the X-mas delicacy in the produce department. My favorite brand is Claxton, though, Sunmaid makes a decent one with lots of pecans. I don't understand why fruit cake gets such a bad rap and why more people don't enjoy this dried fruit, nut, molasses, sugar and bread-y treat. It's seriously good (well, not so much if you're allergic to nuts). I just had a couple small pieces. If you buy some, put it in the fridge, it'll last and you will be reminded of Christmas all year long.
